Kitab Pusaka Taklukkan TOEFL

I read the article from Ahmad Syamil, downloaded from beasiswa mailing list, about how to improve our english skill. The author gave a nice title, “Kitab Pusaka : Ilmu Menaklukkan TOEFL dan GMAT”. It’s a lot of interesting points wrote down here. He wrote some smart ways on learning and understanding english structure. He told us about three ways learning method :

1. How to quickly learn structure and grammar
2. How to learn from our past fault
3. How to understand the reading context inspite of memorize it.

Syamil also told that people have limited memory capacity in their brain. For example, we have memorized 1,000 data items. On the next day, we memorize more 500 data items. There is no exactly 1,500 data items in our brain. Why ? There’s a possibility of data losing for about 200 – 300 data items. Therefore, our brain now has only 1,200 until 1,300 data items. For that reason, we shall prefer understanding than memorizing.

In another paragraph, Syamil told some simple ways to prepare TOEFL :

1. Frequently turning our TOEFL cassete on. Try to learn how the native speaker pronounces the english word.

2. Frequently writing our ideas on blog or diary. This is what i’m doing now. I planned to write again all of my articles in this blog in english. So, it will quite push me up to learn english and remember some new words…..

3. Using only one TOEFL book if you learn section III (reading comprehension) of TOEFL. Syamil told that, it’s the better way to understand the author mind and how he structured his reading materials on his book.
